The Beer Garden
Moorcock Inn Beer Garden

Situated at the gateway to both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, the Moorcock Inn is an ideal place to stay whether you are seeking a relaxing retreat or a walking holiday. A short drive into Wensleydale will take you to Hawes, an old market town where a walk down the cobbled streets will lead you to the local shops or up to the Wensleydale Creamery, home to the famous cheeses. The rope makers and the Dales Countryside museum are also worth a visit as is the local market which takes place every Tuesday.

Another few miles will take you down to Aysgarth Falls which are a must see for anyone new to the area.

Bolton Castle is an impressive sight particularly at night when it is lit up and can be seen from miles around and by day it is an interesting place to visit as the sight where Mary Queen of Scots was once held prisoner.

The village of Askrigg can be of particular interest to any James Herriot fans as the setting for All Creatures Great and Small, as can Hardraw Force as the setting for the famous waterfall scene from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

Heading back up into Cumbria, Kendal home of the famous mintcake, is well worth a visit, as is Pendragon Castle, once owned by King Arthur. Driving over the infamous coal road from Garsdale Station takes you to Dent, a beautiful small town which gives the feeling of stepping back in time and a trip on the historic Settle to Carlisle railway is something that certainly should be experienced.

For those intending on making a day of it, Caz is happy to supply maps and packed lunches and give any advice on the area or directions for getting around. For walking ideas please click on the link to the left.
